
The Institute of Dermatology has established in 1972 and conducted a one month course training in dermatology since 1976 by cooperation of WHO that was the first one of International training in Thailand and South East Asia. In 1984, this course expanded to ten month by the project of “ The Diploma Course in Dermatology” under the Third Country Training Program (TCTP) as the proposal supported by the Royal Thai Government, through Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This Diploma course has been continuously 25 years. Until 2008 , there were 25 batch,647 graduated doctors from 28 countries .
In 2009 (26th batch) , the Diploma Course in Dermatology was considered to develop to one year academic training and redesign by adding more subjects and clinical experience in general dermatosurgery, laser surgery, cosmetic surgical techniques and also renamed to "Diploma Course in Dermatology and Dermatosurgery" The other new agency coming for support and enhance this course are Juntendo University International Center (JUIC) and Japanese Dermatological Association (JDA). Up to 2011, there are 27 batch, 705 graduated doctors from 28 countries. Now is 28th batch of Diploma participants and next 2012 is 29th batch.
Objectives
1) To provide knowledge in basic sciences, clinical dermatology and advanced technology in diagnostic approaches and managements of skin disease.
2) To develop broad clinical experience in dermatology and general dermatosurgery, laser surgery, and cosmetic surgical techniques.
Duration of training One (1) year training program started yearly on May to the following April calendar year.
Tuition fees THB 300,000.- and THB 3,500 for damage guarantee
Available capacity: ~ 30 persons
Applicant’s qualifications:
1. Doctor of Medicine graduation with complete Medical License.
2. Below fifty (50) years of age.
3. Have 3 years of working experience after graduated MD/MBBS.
4. Good command of spoken and written English.
5. Good health in physical and mentality .
No medical problem that can involve the training
6. Pregnancy is definitely disqualified to the course condition.
Scholarship nomination: Only foreigner doctors who worked for government can apply for scholarships as follows;
1) Royal Thai Government through Thailand International Development Cooperate Agency (TICA) sponsor 3 foreign doctors from Eligible countries (depend on TICA policy) The applications send to your own government for nominating process
Eligible countries in 2012 : Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia , Fiji, Gambia, India, Indonesia, Iran , Kenya, Kuwait, Laos , Lesotho, Malaysia , Malawi, Maldives ,

2) Japanese Dermatological Association (JDA) sponsor tuition fees (300,000 THB/each) to 3 foreign doctors from Third countries. (2010-2014) The applications send directly to the Institute of Dermatology, Thailand.
Course Curriculum : The course is divided to two (2) semesters and conducted in English. The class started at 9-12 am and 1-4 pm on Monday to Friday. Morning session is about Clinical O.P.D , IPD, Subspecialty and laboratory. Afternoon is lectures session that delivered by Medical teacher and Japanse Expert who are the expertise in clinical dermatology and clinical research . The participants are divided in to small groups for any activities such as OPD groups, Journal club, Interesting case , etc.
Course Contents :
I. Lecture
1.1 Basic sciences & General Dermatology : Principle of dermatology, Basic Structure and Function of the skin, Cutaneous Microbiology, Disease of the skin, Pediatric /Geriatric dermatology, Dermatoses of Pregnancy, Skin sign in systemic disease, Molecular biology, Bioengineering, Topical therapy & Medicine use in Dermatology, etc.
1.2 Subspecialty: Contact and Occupational Dermatology , Immunology, Photobiology, Dermatopathology, Mycology
1.3 Dermatosurgery
1) Surgery: Introduction to Dermatosurgery, Basic Principle to Dermatosurgery, Electrosurgery, Cryosurgery, Chemical Peeling, Surgical Treatment of Vitiligo, Surgical Treatment of Skin Cancer.
2) Laser: Basic Principle of Laser in Dermatology, Vascular Specific Laser, Pigment Specific Laser, Hair Removal Laser, Ablative and Non Ablative Skin Remodeling Laser, Radiofrequency, Fractional Skin Resurfacing Laser, Botulinum Toxin in Cosmetic Dermatology, Filler, Microdermabrasion, and Ligh-based Therapy of Acne Vulgaris.
3) Anti-aging: Introduction to Anti-aging Therapy, Roles of Micronutrient in Anti-aging Therapy, Roles of Hormone Treatment in Anti-aging, and Fundamental of Stem Cell Therapy.
II. Clinical Practice : Clinical demonstration, O.P.D., I.P.D., Rotation to visit and practice at Subspecialty , special clinic, laboratory in Dermatology. Hospital visit at other Medical schools
III. Coursework assignments : Country report, Journal club, Interesting case, and Topic Review
IV. Field trips
• Chiang mai University and Mc Kane Rehabilitation Leprosy Center in
Chiang mai Province, northern of Thailand.
• Regional Center of Tropical Dermatology in Trang Province, southern of Thailand.
Measurement and evaluation Each term has final examination that consist of Paper exam, Clinical Case exam, laboratory & subspecialty exam. The total score include all exam, clinical practice and assignment. At the end of the course, there are 2 times of oral exam, by IOD staff and by Japanese professor.
Criterion of measurement To successfully complete the course, participants must have
Attending time ≥ 80 % Include 2 times of field trips
Total score ≥ 60 %
Oral examination ≥ 60 %

The selection process
1) Thai applicants consider by Interviewing , qualification and recommendation.
2) Foreigner applicants consider by qualification and recommendation (so this is reason why you should complete your application)
Notification By letter of acceptance and IOD will provide letter recommendation to the Royal Thai Embassy for the acceptance to do their visa (non-immigrant)
Tuition fees payment : THB 300,000 and THB 3,500 for damage guarantee

Condition

5) Participants must be responsible for their own living allowance, accommodations, health & accident insurance, visa extension and other expenses which may occur during the training course.
6) For JDA sponsors, who cannot pass the exam and do not obtain the Diploma, should refund the tuition fees.
7) Spouse, member of family or companion are not allowed to participate in any activities.
8) Institute of Dermatology do not certify any participant’s companion for doing visa or extend visa.
